Drowning in a sea of pamphlets and a book given to me by my doctors, I have continued to struggle to find any piece that is relatable to my situation. This is not only in regard to my age, but my stage in life, my hobbies, the HUGE factor that I have not had children yet, etc. These aspects all make a difference when making decisions for how I am going to kick this disease.
Like I would for any other topic, I turned to social media. I searched tirelessly to start connecting with anyone who may be of support to me or could share their experience with me. Even the smallest relatable moment would make me feel a little less alone in this. Your friends and family can be the best support system in the world, but finding other “breasties” to connect with was a game changer for me.
All of this got me thinking…
If it was as simple as me knowing my body and knowing something was wrong, how can I bring awareness to this for young women? What can I do to play my part in this disease?
I have to admit, I had no idea what the steps were to a self-breast exam. No one taught me this and if they did, they were long gone in my memory. All I remember is that it was briefly emphasized in my sexual-education class in high school. Instead, I was familiar with my body and listened to it telling me something was wrong. If anything, you have your mind, body, soul connection to fall back on.
Luckily, I have an amazing friend who is extraordinary at bringing thoughts and ideas to a visually appealing aesthetic. (https://mcurran.myportfolio.com) Because of Meagan, you now have a graphic that can teach you those steps to be On Your Breast Behavior! You can make it your phone background, print it out or share it with friends. Just promise me you will keep it close.
